Traffic Impact Assessments

Our Traffic Impact Assessments (TIA) provide a comprehensive analysis of the traffic and transport engineering implications of urban development projects. The main objective of the TIA is to identify the impact on traffic flow, car parking, and infrastructure requirements and to propose measures to mitigate any negative effects.

Key elements of our TIAs include:

  • Existing Conditions: Analysis of existing traffic volumes, road capacities, intersections, and accident history in the area surrounding the development.

  • Development Proposal: Detailed description of the proposed development, including size, land use, access points and parking arrangements.

  • Car Parking Provision: Evaluation of the adequacy of parking spaces based on the size and type of development, in line with local planning requirements and anticipated demand.

  • Vehicular Access and Car Park Design: Assessment of the layout, safety, and functionality of parking areas and accessways, ensuring compliance with design standards for vehicle maneuverability, pedestrian safety, and efficient traffic flow. This is often accompanied by the preparation of a swept path assessment.

  • Bicycle Parking: Evaluation of the number and design of bicycle parking spaces, ensuring compliance with local regulations, adequate security, and convenient access.

  • Waste and Loading: Assessment of designated areas for waste collection and loading/unloading activities, ensuring safe and efficient access for service vehicles without disrupting traffic flow.

  • Traffic Generation: Estimation of the number of vehicle trips that the development will generate, often based on land use type and industry-standard trip generation rates.

  • Traffic Assessment: Assessment of how the additional traffic will affect nearby roads and intersections in terms of capacity, congestion, and safety.

  • Mitigation Measures: Recommendations for improvements or modifications to the road network (such as adding traffic signals, widening roads, or modifying access points) to accommodate the additional traffic generated by the development.

The TIA is often required by local authorities as part of the planning approval process for new developments. We have extensive experience in preparing comprehensive Traffic Impact Assessments (TIAs) for various urban development projects. Each of our TIAs is uniquely tailored to assess the specific impacts of individual projects, utilising site-specific survey data and empirical evidence of similar projects.
